MyMitra Children's Library
The Beginning of MyMitra
MyMitra’s origin can be traced back to the year 2001. Janhavi. L living in San Diego, USA, at that time started MyMitra. The main focus was on very young children (1 to 5 yrs) and their parents. Smart Parenting, the workshop for parents, thus came alive. Being a part of this class brought about a change in the parents’ interaction with their child. Parents were able to form a greater bond by spending quality time with the child. The activities and games they played with the child and other parents helped them understand their role better. The Q&A gave many answers to many issues related to raising children. The importance of reading to the children was emphasized and embraced.
In the year 2006, Janhavi moved to Bangalore, India with her family and started MyMitra Children’s Library. It was designed to be a hub for children up to 14 yrs. The library housed some rare and wonderful books and toys. Workshops like Mask Making, Clay Modelling etc were held. Smart Parenting was introduced on a daily basis. Many mothers and children benefited by this program. Bombe Mane’s artist, Mrs. Jayashree Raju performed puppet shows and story telling sessions here. They were appreciated by one and all. Creative Writing for school children was a big hit. Children not only penned stories and poems, but also showed significant improvement in their academics at school.
In 2008, MyMitra Children’s Library moved to its current location in Jayanagar 7th Block. The library continued to grow, both in terms of the book collection as well as its patrons. The workshops conducted here are unique, fun and educative for children. It is also one of the few toy lending libraries in the city.
